CHILDREN'S CENTRE

Altmore Children's Centre is a vibrant, diverse and very busy Children's Centre. As Executive Headteacher, I pride myself on the core offer we are able to provide our families and the wider community.

As of September 2016, we became the lead Children's Centre Hub for East Ham and we work in close partnership with Oliver Thomas Nursery to provide services and provision for children and families.

Our Vision is to continue to offer the OUTSTANDING services for our parents, families and the Wider Community.

We believe that by working together with a range of health and support agencies, we can offer a welcoming, accessible environment with outstanding services to meet the needs of our local community. This includes the Best Start in Life Initiative launched by the London Borough of Newham.

Best Start in Life

Newham is committed to maintaining a free, universal, local offer to support expectant parents and families with children aged 0-4 to give their child the best start in life. The evidence for this is clear: investment in the early years is critical to securing positive outcomes later in life. The Best Start in Life (BSiL) ‘guarantee’ to families begins with a strong health offer from pregnancy and provides support to parents throughout the early stages of their child’s life.

The programme integrates health, early learning and parenting practitioners and will be delivered from a range of neighbourhood venues including one Children’s Centre in each of Newham eight community neighbourhoods, as well as a range of community venues including libraries and schools.

In addition, I believe that with the support of the amazing staff in the Children's Centre we are able to:

  1. Continue to work closely in partnership with parents, children have the best chance of achieving their full potential. Our Family Support workers and Outreach team are geared to meet the needs of our families and service users.
  2. Foster confidence and supporting attitudes of independence, motivation and decision making, children will develop the skills they need for 'life-long learning';

The Children's Centre produce a Calendar that lists the services and sessions held at Oliver Thomas Nursery and Altmore Children’s Centre.

I look forward to welcoming you to our Outstanding Children's Centre.
