National Poetry Day

On Thursday 3rd October 2024 it was National Poetry Day. To celebrate this special event, children in KS1 took part in an activity where they wrote acrostic poems for their friends, titled ‘If You Were a Poem.’ In the afternoon we set up poetry booths in the hall, where Year 2 children took on the role of poets, and wrote ‘pocket poems’ for the younger children at the school. These were acrostic poems beginning with the letters of their names, filled with positive affirmations for the children to carry around. This year children are also taking part in a poetry competition called ‘Little Dreamers’ by Young Writers, where they will be writing acrostic poems inspired by their dreams. It was a fantastic poetry-filled day, and it was lovely to see all the children so excited to write poems for their friends and teachers.
