In Year 1, in D & T children have been exploring everyday items that have moving parts including those with levers and sliders. They have been developing their understanding by thinking about how and what part of the item moves.
Children were introduced to the tools and materials that would help them create an animal slider, linked to our Amazing Animals Topic.
They have been demonstrating their understanding of each mechanism by creating sliders and levers of animals that appear to be moving across the sea or the land. Children were then encouraged children to add pictures to their mechanisms.
Our final product will be to design, make and evaluate a mechanism linked to our current core text ‘A Mouse Called Julian’. We will generate simple design criteria and use techniques that we have learnt. Children will then evaluate our ideas against the design criteria.
