In Year 2, as part of our topic ‘Ahoy!’, we visited the Golden Hinde, a full-sized reconstruction of the real Golden Hind ship which was sailed around the Globe by Sir Francis Drake between 1577 and 1580. The children learnt all about pirates, and the fascinating history about the first English ship to travel around the globe.
Everyone had a great time exploring the many different areas of the ship, learning about pirates’ jobs, what pirates ate, how they battled against other pirate ships, and the differences between pirates in the past and present. We even got to explore cannons, and role-play how the pirates would clean them, load them up and use them in a battle!
