The topic in Reception this term is all about ‘Bears’. Children have been reading the story ‘We’re going on a Bear hunt.’ We read the story in small groups and children were able to ask simple questions related to the story and answer simple questions. Children loved the story and were able to listen to and remember the story by looking at all the illustrations. We all joined in with the repeated refrains “we can’t go over it, we can’t go under it, oh no we got to go through it.” Some of the children were able to retell the story independently, occasionally exploring language and vocabulary from books such as “thick, oozy mud.” Our parents also had the opportunity to see what the children have been learning over the course of this week by listening to the story being sung with musical instruments and actions during our recent Reading Cafe session.
